Under What Administration?

Most people think Reagan quelled inflation after Jimmy Carter. They would be wrong. Most people think the Biden administration was totally at fault for the collapse of the Afghan Army in 2021...

So, under what administration did something happen? It's often thought that no matter what the event, it always happened under the four years of, say, Jimmy Carter, or the eight years of Ronald Reagan, or the four years of Donald Trump, but quite frankly a lot of things happen before and after an administration.

Take, for example, the inflation in the 1970s. Most people think that Reagan quelled inflation— after Jimmy Carter— and They’re wrong. It was August, 1979, after disastrous other appointments to the Treasury and Fed, that Jimmy Carter finally got his act together and got Paul Volcker to be the Head of the Federal Reserve. And then it took another year for inflation to start going down. If you look at the change in the inflation numbers, they were like 13% ,11% but a year and a half later they started going down under the Reagan administration.

Washington Times has a big article today (February 28, 2023) and it's entitled “Taliban comb Kabul records to hunt down US war allies." While the withdrawal in 2021 of the USA from Afghanistan was a total failure of the Biden administration— the actual withdrawal was a disaster. As I said then, sixth graders could've done a better job. However, and this is true about incentives in what happens in administrations and in businesses, read what happened before Biden took office.

Remember Donald Trump said he was going to get out, from the Washtimes article, "Afghan forces became dependent on US support and were unable to operate without it. Once the Trump administration forged a withdrawal timeline agreement with the Taliban in 2020, security started to collapse quickly. The U.S. backed government of the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani was not included in the original withdrawal talks.”

Folks, that was a disaster caused by Donald Trump. That led to Afghan security forces to fly out of the country, get out of the country and contributed to the disastrous withdrawal under Biden. It shows you why we need leadership. If you were there, you better stay there, and you better make it a surprise if you have to leave. It was a total failure of the Trump administration to talk about it, to say we were going to get out and then not get out. We need decisive foreign policy, we need leadership in foreign policy, and we don't have it and we haven't had since... oh my. we got to go back to President George H.W. Bush.
