America on the Edge: Power Struggles, Policy Cracks, and Global Tensions - (5/29/25).
Armstrong Williams maybe the finest interviewer in America. Honored to be with him and his other guests again.
I come in at around 15:00 for two segments. The first is about Elon Musk and DOGE. And yes I am in a 30 year old tie Made in …France..not the American made ones you see, although my shirt and blazer (not quite as old!) are made in USA. I was in Seattle getting a Student Visa for my daughter, Audrey, so she can go to graduate school in France in August! (A different substack for that!)
At 17:30 I start in, “All this stuff is really not getting to the point of what is really happening in America, which is a weak dollar, higher real interest rates, hurting middle class families and a tax bill that will not help any of this because it won’t simplify the tax code, will bring more corruption…!” Steve Laffey
Then I go into the narcissism of Donald Trump and why he can’t criticize Elon Musk. Trump just wants his TV show which he keeps broadcasting to the world everyday. But as I say at around 19:25 “We need a stronger dollar, we need a budget that makes some sense”, …but we are heading for a disaster.
I come back in at 23:11 as Armstrong Williams is so great and his anger and disgust at our federal government is right on target. He ends with, “What happens now?”
24:11 “What happens now is …” And you can here the rest here and it is depressing. at 25:00 I reference Jimmy Carter, yes Jimmy Carter. Go watch the clips at his Presidential Library. I did.
26:00 “Pick a new battle and win, is my advise.” Regarding Medicaid.
The second segment starts at 28:40.
Ms. Patrice Lee Onwuka – Co-Host WMAL DC, Economic Policy Center Director Independent Women’s Forum
starts us of with some great comments. Wonderful to be on with her.
At around 31:00 Armstrong turns to me. My comments on Communist China and the lack of legislation to combat their evil ways is well know and I say them forcefully here again. I have been saying this publicly since 2005. I have been right, but to no avail as the powers of money and corruption continue to win.
And then we move to Transgender abuse of young women in our country and Patricia Lee Onwuka nails it. 36:34 “They would have been happy to use a rock…” is the best line of the day!
I come on at 37:22 with the “last word!”
Enjoy.
One last trip in USA with my two youngest daughters, Audrey above wearing her also made in France's scarf and Jessica below, in Seattle last week at the space needle! We went there so Audrey could interview with a nice people at the French consulate in Seattle to get her student visa to head to Paris and Lyon August 10th!
Excellent show as always, Steve. Stay safe out there, my friend
